All of the previously written tales for the Welcome to October Falls anthology are in second-draft status, which means it’s time to do something new. Today I started on my new short story, tentatively entitled “Welcome to October Falls”. That title will probably change.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the story I was originally intending to write, but I think this one is a much better fit for the collection. It brings more action to the anthology, and it uses some of the concepts introduced in my other stories. You just might see one or two of the nasties from Court of the Abominatrix show up.
In terms of style, I’m going for something along the lines of “The Shadow over Innsmouth,” but without all the longwinded backstory. And more weapons. Only time will tell if I can manage to pull that off. I expect this story to be fairly lengthy… my goal is to have it be the second longest story in the collection (with “Inquisitors” being the longest). But as we all know, I’m notoriously bad at sticking to word count estimates. After I’ve finished writing it, the entire collection goes through a final round of editing and proofreading. I’m looking at mid to late November for publication.
Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy Oh boy… 🙂
