[Admin: Set directly after the initial questioning of Fillip by Perrin
Mayce.]
As Perrin and William left the small conference area, both of them
stopped before the hooded guard that was standing just outside.
"We are finished with the accused," said Perrin. He stressed the word
'accused,' since it was his experience that most guards tended to forget
that their charges were actually innocent until proven otherwise. "I
would like to speak to someone about the supposed evidence that has been
collected."
[Mage Brendan]
"I would be the one to whom you need to speak. The 'Evidence' is ready
for examination," he turned and started to walked, "I am called Brendan.
I am the one who has collected the evidence and reported my findings to
the Sheriff."
[Perrin]
"Ahh, how convenient. Write that down, William."
William made a note of the guard's name.
"And what type of analysis did you perform in order to arrive at your
'findings'?"
[Mage Brendan]
"Convience has nothing to do with it. As to my analysis, they are based
on equivalent magics from Bleckner. They were used to identify the blood
stains and location of the weapon used against the young women. If you
wish your own analysis done the items in question will be made available
under supervision."
The hooded mage turn to the lawyer, "Now do you have any direct
questions to ask, or will you continue to question and contest
everything the Guard has done?"
[Perrin]
"Considering what little I know of the Guard, it is quite logical for me
to question them, their methods, and their members until my
professional curiosity is satisfied. Now, if you will be so kind
as to tell me what conclusions you've drawn from your
examination..."
[Mage Brendan]
"I will tell you what my investigation has revealed. First is there is
no proof other then a forced statement that Fillip had anything to do
with the murder of the Envoy's secretary. But at his interview he said
he did not know anything about the him, only to call him by name during
the later part of his questioning in a suppose relationship with the
girl he lived with. The counterfeit signet ring bears trace of Fillip's
touch but does little to incriminate him."
He opened the door to the evidence room, "Here is what I have in regards
to the death of the girl. I have been to the shanty were Fillip lived.
Statements from those living nearby that indicate it was a violent
relationship and that they argued frequently. The shanty was burnt to the
ground so it is hard to say if the girl was killed within the house and
then her body moved." He pulled back the sheet that concealed the girls
body, "The face has been disfigured trying to hide her identity. The blade
that was used is over on the table. Her blood has been indentified on
Fillip's clothing and the blade. Fillip's footprints were locate near the
shallow grave were the body was finally found. Soil from the grave is also
on his clothing. The blade bears only his presence and the girl's. So by
what I have found I would have to say Fillip killed Denlira in the shanty
and then moved the girl to hide the body. Before he buried her he
disfigured her face to keep her from being recognized, plus tried to
disguise her with magics. He covered the grave hastily and also tried to
hide it with magic. He moved deeper into the forest where he cast aside
the murder weapon. Sometime not too long after that he was captured by the
Envoy and those that were with him."
He turned to the lawyer once more, "Is there anything else you would
like to know?"
[Perrin]
As William scribbled down every word that the mage said, Perrin peered
inquisitively at the body and evidence. He evinced no squeamishness at
the mutilated corpse, and looked upon it as he would a large rock or
particularly uninteresting book..
"I see," he said to no one in particular. "William..."
Perrin held out his hand and wiggled his fingers, indicating that he
needed his *own* writing utensils to make further notes. William
handed over a second pad and stylus, and Perrin began writing
furiously. Page after page of detailed descriptions, drawings, notes,
and possible further lines of questioning filled up nearly the entire
pad before Perrin again addressed the mage.
"... and how difficult would it be for a person to REMOVE his own
impressions from an object and replace them with those of another,
hmmm?"
Of course, Perrin already knew the answer to that question. Such a thing
could certainly be done... and the ease or difficulty would depend on the
skill of the mage making the attempt, and the skill of the mage that
studied the effected objects. Whether Mage Brendan knew this or not was
another matter entirely...
[Mage Brendan]
"You may bring whomever you wish to make your own examination of the
evidence. But they will be monitared against place their own touches
upon the evidence. I may not be used to doing such examinations but I am
very skilled with the use of magic and what can be done with it. You may
send a message to the Sheriff when you have located someone, but make
sure they are not evil at heart or they will not be able to pass the
wards placed on this room. Now would you care to meet with the Sheriff
or would you prefer an escort to the gate?"
[Perrin]
"I think we are ready to leave now," said Perrin.
William nodded emphatically.
